This is an old one. Wimpy, later Wimpy Regal were formed by the building Company Wimpy manyt years ago, basically putting alarms in new built houses, built by them. They then became more commercial and even had there own monitoring station. A good NACOSS Approced company, they went on to use Eurobells with Castle controlo units. Eventally bought by ADT at about the same time as AIJ in Leatherhead.

Surpriseds you saw this in Famouth. This firm was a NACOSS Approved Company in Kent, cant remem ber exactly where. A couple of Ex Chubb Alarms guys. Long gone.

you are referring to the 6000 series panel, and the reset time and date procedure was a device to clear user messages. When ATI and Protection One residential were answering the phones there was no problem with this procedure, the staff were well trained to deal with minor problems.

Protection One bought Extrawatch on condition that Extrawatch could achieve Class 6 wire-free approval. This was done. At that time the Extrawatch system was the best class 6 system. Extrawatch also installed wired systems when a wirefree system was not suitable for some premises. The wirefree system was known as the 8000 series system.

They waited exactly 1 year, and then somehow the backroom staff that repaired the parts sort of left. The field service staff became part of ADT’s field engineers. ADT engineers had a morning’s course on how to service the 8000 series system, and a system manual, both provided by me. I was regularly asked for technical assistance. At the time of the ADT take-over Protection One residential phone operators were all well trained by us and could fix many problems over the phone. That finished with the take-over, ADT operators were not trained this way and former Protection One operators were not permitted to provide the sort of previous back-up support.
ADT removed a lot of systems because parts were no longer available, because parts could no longer be found, (see above).

I suspect that this was or maybe still are an electrical contractor who installs burglar alarms, as it looks like and electrical socket upside down. I would personnaly look at a new design as image is important.

Banhams used these bell boxes for many many years before switching to Euro bells. The boxes contained a 6″ bell a battery and a circuit board mounted sideways th a reed switch on each. A magnet was screwed to the wall lining up with one reed switch and a magnet glued o the lid, lining up with the second hen the lid was on.

Wierd, remember one of those exact silver round alarms on a Natwest in Bath as a lad (when I first started tinkering with the new fangled plastic and keypad stuff!) and wondering why there wasnt a name on it. I guess back in 1992 it might /just/ have still been in use?

Criminal action ripping that out!!!
I still have circuit diagrams for the AFA panels. So if you want to get any salvaged bits working, get Viki to forward my email address to you.
I used to service 100s of those systems. Many still running during the 1990s/2000s.
Our corner shop has one too.

The batteries you mention were R40A Flag cells.
Very hard to get hold of these days, and therefore really expensive.

My workshop has an old AFA system running; though had to slightly modify it so it could run from a charger/battery set up.
Still works fine.

Northampton. the boss owns a pub too and parks an old Morris Minor van outside all done up in the BTA logo’s and colours.Nice piece of advertising as it catches the eye.

BTA still trade. They are in the Midlands. They had a London operation which they sold many years ago (forget to whom). BTA stands for BT Alarms. A NSI/NACOSS approved company.

I used to work for this company. They’re still around and based in St Helens, Merseyside. The “B.E.S.T” actually stands for “Barnes Electrical Security and Telecoms”, after the owner, Paul Barnes. Hope this helps!
