Access Security, Milton Keynes: arrow-house

Access Security

“Access Security” burglar alarm, Milton Keynes • The ever-popular arrow-house. That’s probably what they look like in Milton Keynes. • Spotted: Midsummer Boulevard, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, MK9, England, 2010 • Politics: In the Conservative constituency of Milton Keynes North

Premia Security, Southwark: Dickensian

Premia Security

“Premia Security” burglar alarm, Southwark • Another rooftop-mountain-pyramid -triangle thing. Notable for being found in Wild’s Rents, one of London’s most Dickensian-sounding roads. • Spotted: Wild’s Rents, Southwark, London, SE1, England, 2011 • Politics: In the Liberal Democrat constituency of Bermondsey and Old Southwark

Pritchard Security Systems, Cardiff: mountainous

Pritchard Security Systems

“Pritchard Security Systems” burglar alarm, Cardiff • Pyramids? Mountains? Rooftops? It’s Welsh, so it could be rooftops in front of a mountain. • Spotted: St Mary Street, Cardiff, South Glamorgan, CF10, Wales, 2012 • Politics: In the Liberal Democrat constituency of Cardiff Central

IHD Security Limited, Ealing: sonic dot

IHD Security Limited

“IHD Security Limited” burglar alarm, Ealing • Rounded 1970s house-arrow surrounding sonic dot and unexplained acronym. • Spotted: Bideford Avenue, Ealing, London, UB6, England, 2006 • Politics: In the Labour constituency of Ealing North

Crime Cure, Bristol: old fave

Crime Cure

“Crime Cure” burglar alarm, Bristol • Update of an old favourite, as featured here. Where’s the house? It’s surrounding the massively complex heraldic device. • Spotted: The Arcade, Horsefair, Bristol, Avon, BS1, England, 2013 • Politics: In the Liberal Democrat constituency of Bristol West

Imperial Security, Bristol: Chinese

Imperial Security

“Imperial Security” burglar alarm, Bristol • Chinese house! • Spotted: The Arcade, Horsefair, Bristol, Avon, BS1, England, 2013 • Politics: In the Liberal Democrat constituency of Bristol West

Tel Cam, Lambeth: Ecurity

TelCam ElectricAve Lambeth nr SW9 8HY 20338_800

“Tel Cam Security Systems” burglar alarm, Lambeth • Or, in this case, Ecurity Systems. I think that’s a weird tall house in the middle of the triangle, but it’s a bit hard to say. • Spotted: Electric Avenue, Brixton, Lambeth, London, SW9, England, 2012 • Politics: In the Labour constituency of Dulwich and West Norwood

Wimpey Security, Southwark: reflected

Wimpey Security Systems Monitored Alarm

“Wimpey Security Systems Monitored Alarm” burglar alarm, Southwark • Another arrow-house, this time reflected into an angular crenellated shield. • Spotted: Glasshill Street, Southwark, London, SE1, England, 2010 • Politics: In the Liberal Democrat constituency of Bermondsey and Old Southwark

Home Security Services, Southwark: arrow-house

Home Security Services

“Home Security Services” burglar alarm, Southwark • Cross between a giant arrow and a house, and pretty old and faded. • Spotted: Riley Road, Southwark, London, SE1, England, 2012 • Politics: In the Liberal Democrat constituency of Bermondsey and Old Southwark

Secure Installations Alarm, Falmouth: giant hand

Secure MarketStrand Falmouth nr TR11 3DF 01980_800

“Secure Installations Alarm” burglar alarm, Falmouth • Giant hand holding tiny house – nice. • Spotted: Market Strand, Falmouth, Cornwall, TR11, England, 2012 • Politics: In the Conservative constituency of Truro and Falmouth

Securaplace, Southwark: lockdown

Securaplace

“Securaplace” burglar alarm, Southwark • Fabulous old sounder with a lock and a house. • Spotted: Borough High Street, Southwark, London, SE1, England, 2011 • Politics: In the Liberal Democrat constituency of Bermondsey and Old Southwark

Berkshire Home Alarms, Cirencester: bleak house

BerkshireHome Nr Cirencester GL7 20197_800

“Berkshire Home Alarms Reading” burglar alarm, Cirencester • A rather bleak-looking house: found on some random new “executive” estate I was driving past. • Spotted: near Cirencester, Gloucestershire, GL7, England, 2012 • Politics: In the Conservative constituency of Cotswolds

TAN Alarms, Bath: eaves

TAN Alarms

“TAN Alarms” burglar alarm, Bath • Starting today: alarms with houses on, like this clever use of As as roof eaves (though no clue as to what TAN stands for). • Spotted: Pierrepont Street, Bath, Avon, BA1, England, 2011 • Politics: In the Liberal Democrat constituency of Bath

LT Security Services, Wandsworth: romantic

LT Security Services

“LT Security Services” burglar alarm, Wandsworth • I thought that was a Japanese flag in the background, then I realised it’s the moon in a night sky. Quite a romantic illustration for a burglar alarm. • Spotted: Longbeach Road, Wandsworth, London, SW11, England, 2012 • Politics: In the Conservative constituency of Battersea

L or L Security, Hackney: handbasket

LorL BroadwayMkt nr E8 4PH 40425_800

“L or L Security” burglar alarm, Hackney • A city in a padlock that looks like a basket. Excellent. But I have no idea what the weird name L or L means – hell in a handbasket? • Spotted: Broadway Market, Hackney, London, E8, England, 2012 • Politics: In the Labour constituency of Hackney South and Shoreditch

Dent Security, Cambridge: big D

Dent Security

“Dent Security” burglar alarm, Cambridge • I think this jolly big D is meant to represent a padlock, if not a threat to put a dent in Johnny Burglar. • Spotted: Hills Road, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, CB2, England, 2010 • Politics: In the Liberal Democrat constituency of South Cambridgeshire

Electrotect Group, Westminster: elaborate

Electrotrct Security Systems

“Electrotrct Group Security Systems” burglar alarm, City of Westminster • A rather elaborate design, and the only one of its kind I’ve ever found. Electrotect Group sounds like a 1980s synth band, but in fact I’m thinking of Electroset, the 1990s rave outfit – here’s How Does It Feel, their quite good version of a New Order classic. Sigh, dance music’s really gone down the dumper since then. • Spotted: Great Titchfield Street, City of Westminster, London, W1, England, 2012 • Politics: In the Conservative constituency of Cities of London and Westminster

ADK, Bolton: parcel

ADK

“ADK” burglar alarm, Bolton • This is somewhat unreadable, I’m just guessing it says ADK. I like the Union Jack “parcel” on the left. • Spotted: Bridge Street, Bolton, Lancashire, BL1, England, 2010 • Politics: In the Labour constituency of Bolton North East

Alarming UK, Thetford: jack up

Alarming UK

“Alarming UK” burglar alarm, Thetford • Starting today: a few alarms with Union Jacks on. I’ve already featured several – mainly Britannia and Churchill – as part of other categories, but these are a few that fell through the net. This torn-off example has got a slightly alarming name, no pun intended. • Spotted: Town centre, Thetford, Norfolk, IP24, England, 2006 • Politics: In the Conservative constituency of Norfolk South West

Disc Security Systems, Glasgow: real CD

Disc Security Systems

“Disc Security Systems” burglar alarm, Glasgow • Scotland seems to sprout even more musical alarms than Norwich. I’ve already featured Disc, but this is a much better photo. How I love these sounders – I mean, each one has computer-readable lettering and an actual, real CD on it! How cool is that? If each one played a different Scottish musical “legend” – eg the Bay City Rollers, The Proclaimers, The Krankies – that would be the icing on the cake. • Spotted: George Street, Glasgow, G1, Scotland, 2012 • Politics: In the Labour constituency of Glasgow Central

Clear Sound Security, Stratford-upon-Avon: swirling

ClearSound ElySt StratfordUponAvon nr CV37 6LW 20078_800

“Clear Sound Security” burglar alarm, Stratford-upon-Avon • Yet another double letter – two Cs making an S, if I read the monogram right. And a sort of swirling soundwave too. Quite clever really. • Spotted: Ely Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, CV37, England, 2012 • Politics: In the Conservative constituency of Stratford-on-Avon

Bell Alarms, Glasgow: angular

Bell Alarms

“Bell Alarms” burglar alarm, Glasgow • I’ve already featured many a bell, and here’s a wonky angular one bearing the Scottish flag and a tiny owl. So, it probably doesn’t sound that great. • Spotted: Saucihall Street, Glasgow, G2, Scotland, 2012 • Politics: In the Labour constituency of Glasgow Central

Fife Alarms, Edinburgh: shrieky

Fife Alarms

“Fife Alarms” burglar alarm, Edinburgh • Another medieval instrument, and even shriller than the clarion, a fife is a small, shrieky flute beloved of marching bands. It’s also a place in Scotland of course, which is probably what this alarm was named after. • Spotted: Howe Street, Edinburgh, EH3, Scotland, 2012 • Politics: In the Labour constituency of Edinburgh North and Leith

“Ultra”, Liverpool: verily

Ultra

“Ultra” burglar alarm, Liverpool • More Latin, though this just means very very very very. Which is, verily, quite an avant-garde name for a burglar alarm. • Spotted: Stanley Dock area, Liverpool, Merseyside, L3, England, 2008 • Politics: In the Labour constituency of Liverpool Riverside

“Fab”, Cardiff: fab indeed

Fab Security System

“Fab Security System” burglar alarm, Cardiff • Finally I made it to Wales, where I found this utterly fab FAB alarm. A keyhole and a Thunderbirds catchphrase – can’t get more excellent than that. • Spotted: Womanby Street, Cardiff, South Glamorgan, CF10, Wales, 2012 • Politics: In the Liberal Democrat constituency of Cardiff Central

“Ace”, Camden: emphatic

Ace SaffronHill nr EC1N 8FH 10524_800

“Ace” burglar alarm, Camden • Yet another Ace alarm: I’ve also found the name with a club / cloverleaf symbol, a 1970s disco monogram, and variations on a stop sign. Presumably they’re all logos for separate firms; of which I like this emphatically circled comic-book roundel the best. • Spotted: Saffron Hill, Camden, London, EC1, England, 2012 • Politics: In the Labour constituency of Holborn and St. Pancras

“Adept”, Bath: understated

Adept Fire & Security Systems Ltd

“Adept Fire & Security Systems Ltd” burglar alarm, Bath • This logo with its strange pink spot suggests only borderline excellence, as adept is such an odd, understated word: the thesaurus offers flowery synonyms like adroit, accomplished, and dextrous. But it’s more fun playing “antonym alarms”, so my non-excellent doppelganger would simply be called “Inept fire and security”. Which might not catch on. • Spotted: Miles’s Buildings, Bath, Avon, BA1, England, 2011 • Politics: In the Liberal Democrat constituency of Bath
